Press & Feedback
"Everything," taken from the EP, is subtle and minimal compared to most drum & bass offerings, a track emphasizing dreamy synth melodies and chopped vocals while fast-paced percussion and bass ooze in the background.
Edinburgh based producer, and Cut Music owner, blesses the onlookers with his first personal Cut release. Having dealt extensively with the European off-dub scene, curating one of the most familial netlabels of the day, DFRNT takes his moment in the spotlight showing that sometimes the business man is also the artist. In fact, it’s been my personal conspiracy theory for quite some time that Cut music, while posing as a collective, is truly just Alex himself, catering to an exhaustive split personality list. ’Everything‘ is the proof; Actaeon is the pudding.
Renowned for his deep, tranquil style, this release explores a minimal drum & bass vibe, comprising intricately percussive tunes which, for the most part, instil me with a sense of calm. I wrote “for the most part” because the EP actually begins on a fairly sinister note with ‘Dark Spaces’, a tune which, while still bearing a low-key vibe, has a bit of a being-chased-in-the-woods-at-night type feel to it. The rest, however, is more relaxing than a day with Kirsty Young from Desert Island Discs reading you stories in that hushed, intimate tone while you lay in a pit of pillows and stroke puppies. Don’t tell me that doesn’t sound perfect.
Donate as much as you can for this nice piece of music!
This is not only a solid EP, but is amazing for Cut to be releasing such great music for free.
